The construction of Richmond Park Nursery in Kenya has progressed rapidly in recent weeks. Furniture and school supplies have arrived, completing another chapter in the development of the school. Painting work is almost complete, and the classrooms and facilities are being prepared for the opening day. This milestone has been made possible thanks to fundraising efforts within the school community and by the school owners. Throughout the year, families, students, and staff have come together to organise creative events such as Family Day, the Silly Sock Stomp, House Days, and other fun initiatives. These activities not only strengthened community spirit but also generated the funds needed to cover construction costs, purchase essential materials, and support the creation of handmade chairs and tables crafted by locals. Every contribution – big or small – played a vital role in turning this dream into reality.
The nursery will feature three fully enclosed classrooms, plus one outdoor covered classroom, providing flexible learning spaces for different age groups. Small carpets have been created for the youngest students and for eating purposes, ensuring comfort and hygiene. The playground has been creatively designed using repurposed materials, including old tyres that have been painted and transformed into play structures. In addition, a solar energy system and a water filtration unit are currently being installed, guaranteeing sustainable power and clean drinking water for the children and staff.
More than 140 children are expected to begin or continue their education here. The nursery represents a vital opportunity in a disadvantaged region of Africa, where access to quality early education is often limited. Local families are eagerly awaiting the opening of these learning spaces, and teachers and staff are preparing to welcome the students with enthusiasm and care. The inauguration will mark a new chapter of hope and education for the community – a testament to what can be achieved when people unite for a common purpose.
