On Friday, 14th February, a group of Year 4 pupils had the incredible opportunity to visit the Centro Nacional de Golf as part of the ´Golf en Colegios´ programme. Golf en Colegios is a great project led by the Federación de Golf de Madrid (FGM), to promote golf in schools all over Madrid. This first visit provided the students with first-hand experience of the sport, learning from professionals and developing their golfing skills. The day began with an inspiring moment as the children watched a Challenge and European Tour professional play the 18th hole. He guided them through his pre-shot routine, explaining his targets and strategy. The pupils were amazed as he delivered a powerful 300-metre drive, followed by a stunning approach shot landing just 10 feet from the hole.

Following this, the pupils were divided into two groups for practical training. First, they focused on putting, engaging in various skill-based games to improve their grip, stroke, and distance control. Before long, they were displaying impressive technique, resembling budding professionals.

Next, they moved to the driving range, where they received expert instruction on stance, grip, and the fundamentals of a golf swing. With patience and determination, their shots gradually improved, flying higher and travelling greater distances. The professionals provided close guidance, ensuring each pupil gained confidence in their technique.

To conclude the day, the children were delighted to receive special gifts from the centre, including golf hats, balls, and markers—a perfect memento of their unforgettable experience.

The Golf en Colegios initiative is designed to introduce children to the sport golf through a structured programme. The programme consists of different phases the school has to walk through, such as teacher training, equipment delivery, visiting a golf course and finally the possibility to take golf classes at one of the FGM related centres.

The teacher training took place last year and was attended by two of our teachers, who enjoyed several training sessions during term 1. This training equipped them with the necessary skills to introduce golf within our co-curricular programme. In term 2 last year the FGM provided a complete sports kit, containing golf-related equipment aimed at developing key physical skills such as precision, strength, balance, and hand-eye coordination. Additionally, a digital support system with technical guides was included.

In term 3 last year, our Year 3 students had the option to participate in a co-curricular golf programme which gave them the opportunity to practise together with their peers, guided by our trained teachers, which finally led to the fourth step, the opportunity for our students to visit the Centro Nacional de Golf.

We are now entering the final phase with the offer of one term of free golf classes on one of the FGM golf courses and other advantages that students and their families can apply for.

Overall, the whole programme and especially the trip to the Centro Nacional de Golf was a resounding success. RPS appreciates the possibility to be part of this great programme, and we are looking forward to continuing our participation in this fantastic initiative, which provides pupils and their families with a unique introduction to the sport golf.
