Somontes, 22 May 2025 — Eleven Year 4 students from Richmond Park School have officially entered the final phase of the Golf en Colegios programme for 2024/2025, kicking off their free on-course golf lessons last Thursday at the Golf Club Somontes. Supported in small groups by two professional instructors, this marks their exciting first experience in a real club setting.

Organised by the ‘Federación de Golf de Madrid ‘(FGM), the programme introduces school children to golf through a year-long, step-by-step approach. The final phase — a free term of on-site instruction at an FGM-affiliated course — is a highlight, giving students hands-on experience in a professional environment.

Richmond Park joined the initiative last year, starting with teacher training sessions attended by two staff members. In the second term, FGM provided golf kits and digital resources, enabling teachers to integrate golf into the co-curricular programme. Students developed key skills such as coordination, balance, precision, and strength. Then the students took part in regular co-curricular golf sessions, culminating in a visit to the prestigious Centro Nacional de Golf.

This year, nearly 40 Year 3 students already signed up for the programme, led by trained teachers Mr McGarry and Mr Ward.

Now, with Year 4 pupils on the course at Somontes, the programme comes full circle — blending all phases into a rewarding sporting journey. Richmond Park continues to champion diverse, enriching sports opportunities, with Golf en Colegios standing out as a clear success.
