PARENT AWARENESS PROGRAMME

RPS Families “Poner límites para educar con respeto y afecto” talk

On Friday 30 May RPS Families organised the talk “Poner límites para educar con respeto y afecto” about the need for limits in education, the importance of respect in them, what to do and what not to do, and resources to consider raising with authority and affection.

It had the objective of giving practical, effective and simple information so that families can apply it at home and see that it is worth the effort to educate with respect.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN EYFS/PRIMARY AND SECONDARY?

A la Par

We are delighted to share that Richmond Park School and the Fundación A Lar Par will partner to develop a range of learning and support opportunities. A La Par is a local neighbourhood organisation that supports students and young adults with mental conditions. We aim to work together on a range of projects that offer Richmond Park students a deep understanding of how their support can make a difference to others. This will give our IB students the opportunity to undertake a range of CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) roles in a voluntary capacity. We look forward to building a strong relationship to empower young people to achieve their best.

Year 6 trip to Cercedilla

On Wednesday 9 April, Year 6 went on a trip to Dehesa de la Golondrina as their current topic is ‘Mountains’.

Our guide, Phillip, led the children on a short hike to the peak of a mountain where we ate our snack with a beautiful view.

The children learnt about the rock formations, native animals and the plants which grow in Cercedilla.

A lot of fun was had by all!

World Book Day

On 25 April World Book Day was celebrated across the school with a range of exciting events and activities. Pupils from Key Stage 1 to Secondary took part in creative competitions that combined art, cookery, adventure, and writing — all thoughtfully designed to inspire a love of reading.

Vipeika update: other Vipeika projects in Africa

The “Meyen” well that we drilled in April has been completed and the population is now able to extract water.

Teacher housing construction

We are waiting for them to bring the finished ironwork, roof, doors and windows.

Latrines and showers are also being built and we will finish with the installation of solar light.

Dormitory for 60 children

The construction is progressing fast, we can almost see the building with the windows in place and the latrines and showers have already been built.

We expect to finish this building by the end of May.

ZOEA’s talk about the Mediterranean Sea

In this workshop, titled: Exploring the Mediterranean sea, both year 7 groups learnt about how we explore and discover unknown places in the world, going from the outer space to the deepest of the oceans. We then focused on our Mediterranean sea. Students had the chance to observe and touch real life examples of organisms and get to know species that live in our seas that play a very important role in marine ecosystems.

Cambridge training session

Earlier this month, Mr. Conway and Ms. de Gouttes had the opportunity to attend the Cambridge International Education event on fair and accessible assessment at the British Embassy in Madrid. The event explored how Cambridge ensures that all students can access their exams, from content and wording through to spacing and design. Educators from acrossSpain were in attendance and shared their insights and experiences on the top and gained insights into the organisations process and practices.

Attending the forum reinforced the importance of accessibility in education, both regarding RPS internal assessments as well as student readiness for external exams.

Mr. Conway and Ms. de Gouttes returned inspired with new ideas and strategies to further support our commitment to fair and inclusive teaching at Richmond Park School.

Yr 7 visit to the Zoo

Year 7 had a lovely day trip to the zoo on Wednesday 21st May. We spent the first two hours doing a workshop on adaptations, where we looked at different animals and discussed how they were adapted to their environments. We also learned about how the zoo helps with worldwide breeding programmes to prevent species from becoming extinct. We also talked about rewilding and that at first some problems, like hunting and destruction of habitats, must be addressed. Year 7 were great at asking and answering questions, showing their curiosity and enthusiasm.

Yr 8 saw a Silent Film

On Friday 23 May, Year 8 went on a music trip to see a silent film accompanied by a live performance of the score. The students were transfixed by the film which is nearly 100 years old. Starring Buster Keaton, ‘Seven Chances’ was full of emotion, action, stunts and laughter. All of the content of the film was cleverly enhanced through the powerful music composed and performed by the Caspervek Trio live to the students in the theatre. It was a wonderful experience and an informative insight into the development of multimedia arts.

Construction works

We are very pleased with the way the construction works are developing. Everything at present is according to schedule so the 6FC should be handed over by mid-August. At that time it is expected to do the cleaning up and setting up of furniture as well as technological resources and educational materials. These coming weeks we should see the vertical divisions go up.

International Fair

Our International Fair was a joyful celebration of culture, creativity, and community — and it wouldn’t have been the same without YOU! Over 1,200 bodies were walking and admiring the work throughout the school facilities.

From the stunning student displays and delicious global treats, to the music, dancing, and smiling faces everywhere… it was a day to remember.
Every corridor was alive with colour, sound and curiosity — QR codes, videos, interactive displays, and so much wonderful learning shared with pride. The children were beaming, the parents were engaged, and the school truly came to life in the most beautiful way.

A big thank you to our families, staff, and of course, our amazing students for making it such a resounding success.

Special guests: Venezuelan and Indian communities.

SPORTS

Copa de Primavera – Basket

In sports, as in everything in life, there are different opinions, but from the point of view of a coach with many years of experience in this profession, it has been the best game of our team this season. At halftime we were beating a team that in the league had scored 392 points for and 113 against, while we scored 119 for 155 against. Only 3′ at the beginning of the third quarter and the best possible quintet of the rival, made them go ahead. Despite that our last quarter was pretty good, although our constant barrage of shots at the basket was not reflected in many points. It seemed like the rim had a stopper.

However, we have to remain aware that we still have a lot of improvement to do.

Richmond Park School Benjamin Open Cup campaign in style

Richmond Benjamines kicked off their Copa de Primavera campaign in emphatic style with a commanding 7-2 victory over Premier Fútbol.

It took less than a minute for Richmond to take the lead, with Félix opening the scoring in clinical fashion. He doubled his tally before the break, while Beltrán added two stunning goals from free kicks to put Richmond firmly in control.

In the second half, Lucas extended the lead with a beautiful looping finish, before Ángela smashed home a powerful shot into the bottom corner. Pablo wrapped up the scoring late on with a superb finish to cap a dominant performance.

Captain Santi led by example, dazzling on the wing with skill and trickery, while Guillem, Alejandro, and Juan provided excellent defensive cover to protect Richmond’s lead.

Next up, Richmond will face Escuela Hortaleza in their second group match, full of confidence after a brilliant opening display.

Richmond Park School Girls battle bravely in Copa opener

Richmond Park School Alevin Girls kicked off their Copa de Primavera campaign with a narrow and hard-fought 1-0 defeat against Charmartin.

The girls made a strong start, battling for every ball and creating early chances. Vega and Valeria both came close to opening the scoring with well-taken shots, but the Charmartin goalkeeper kept them at bay.

Richmond continued to push after the break, with Natalia going close after a flowing team move. However, against the run of play, Charmartin managed to snatch a goal, putting Richmond behind despite their dominance.

Despite sustained pressure and several late opportunities, Richmond Park were unable to find the equaliser their play deserved. Though the result didn’t go their way, the team showed great spirit, determination, and quality throughout the match.

Five-star Richmond off to a flyer

Richmond Park School Alevin Boys made a statement in their opening Copa de Primavera match with a dominant 5-1 victory over Reggio.

The team flew out of the blocks, taking control of the game early with two quick goals from Gabriel, setting the tone for a confident display. Richmond kept up the momentum, adding three more goals through Guille, Álvaro, and Carlos, to build an impressive 5-0 lead by halftime.

It was a fantastic way to open their Copa de Primavera campaign, with plenty of positives to build on for the matches ahead.

our friends and gain cultural knowledge whilst we savoured the beauty of Paris. Our visit included the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower, Saint-Chapelle and Montmartre. This trip not only provided a cultural understanding of French history but also helped us develop our French speaking skills that will be vital for our IGCSE exams. We are very grateful of this opportunity Richmond Park School have given us.  It was an unforgettable trip!’

Antonio Fontán:14 – RPS: 19: VICTORY WITH LIGHTS AND SHADOWS

The benjamin category is a little misleading. The differences between teams are abysmal in some cases so a win or a loss should not be the indicator to be happy or not, but the evolution of the children. This last victory was not our best game, just as there have been defeats in which we have played better. There have been some good things but in some cases the things we work on in training don’t work as well as they should. The good thing is to draw conclusions from everything you see in the games and adjust the training sessions to those conclusions, always with fun as the fundamental axis.

Richmond roll on: 4–1 win over ISM in Copa de Primavera

Richmond Park School Alevin delivered a commanding performance on Saturday 10 May as they secured a 4–1 victory over ISM in their second fixture of the Copa de Primavera.

The boys got off to the perfect start when Carlos struck early to give Richmond the lead. Despite dominating much of the early play, ISM responded with a well-taken goal to level the match at 1–1.

Just before the break, Iñigo surged forward and unleashed a thunderous strike, restoring Richmond’s lead with a sensational effort and giving his team a 2–1 advantage going into half-time. The second half saw Richmond continue to assert control, with Iban adding a third goal before Carlos sealed the win with his second of the day. The 4–1 result reflected Richmond’s attacking intent and solid team play throughout the match.

It was a strong statement of intent from Richmond Park School Boys as they continue their Copa de Primavera campaign in impressive fashion.

3rd match Copa de Primavera

The last match of the Spring Cup was not such. Our rival did not show up. The impossibility on the part of the organization to postpone games in this Spring Cup surely made it impossible for the rival to request to play on another date. Instead, we were able to have fun playing a great game of mothers and fathers against children. A few parents, a few quality flashes, laughter… nothing was lacking. It would have to be repeated.

Richmond Park School Benjamin battle bravely in Copa de Primavera campaign

The RPS Benjamines embarked on their Copa de Primavera group stage campaign with high hopes and kicked off in style with a commanding 7-2 victory over Premier Fútbol, taking an early lead and maintaining control throughout. However, the momentum was halted in their next fixture against Escuela Hortaleza, where they fell to a 0-3 defeat in a closely contested game. That set up a decisive match against Alfredo de Stefano, where Richmond needed a win to progress. In a thrilling, back-and-forth encounter, the Benjamines showed great determination but narrowly lost 7-5, despite the crucial support of Gonzalo, Sergio, and Carlos, who stepped in over the Puente to help field a full team. While the group stage exit was disappointing, the players can be proud of an excellent season filled with progress and memorable moments.

Highlands overcome Richmond Park School Alevin 4-1 in Copa de Primavera clash

On Saturday 17 May, Richmond Park School Alevin faced off against Highlands in a Copa de Primavera showdown that saw the latter come out 4-1 winners despite a spirited effort from Richmond.

Highlands struck early, seizing the advantage with a well-taken goal that put Richmond on the back foot. However, Richmond responded well, drawing level shortly after with a composed finish that ignited hopes of a comeback.

Just before half-time, Highlands reclaimed the lead with a second goal, giving them a narrow advantage at the break.

Richmond came out strong in the second half, dominating possession and creating several promising chances. Yet, against the run of play, Highlands capitalised to extend their lead to 3-1. A fourth goal late in the game sealed the result, with Richmond unable to recover despite their efforts.

Golf activities

The Federación de Golf de Madrid hosted the second round of the “Circuito Interescolar 2024–2025” on Thursday 22 May 2025 at the Encín Golf Hotel in Alcalá de Henares. The event brought together 44 teams from over 20 schools, each competing for a place in the overall standings.

Richmond Park entered two mixed-age teams, comprising pupils from Year 7 to Year 10. Owing to injuries, both teams fielded only six players rather than the usual eight — a challenge they faced with determination.

RPS’s two teams competed well against 41 teams and 25 schools across the Madrid region. Our teams missed out on the medals this time but did come away with a few prizes in the Raffle. Well done again to all involved.

Somontes. Eleven Year 4 students from Richmond Park School have officially entered the final phase of the Golf en Colegios programme for 2024/2025, kicking off their free on-course golf lessons last Thursday at the Golf Club Somontes. Supported in small groups by two professional instructors, this marks their exciting first experience in a real club setting.

Now, with Year 4 pupils on the course at Somontes, the programme comes full circle — blending all phases into a rewarding sporting journey. Richmond Park continues to champion diverse, enriching sports opportunities, with Golf en Colegios standing out as a clear success.

Sports Days

During the week beginning 19 May, Richmond Park School hosted its much-anticipated Sports Week for pupils from Year 3 to Year 10. The athletics competitions took place at the Santa Ana athletics track, with expert guidance provided by Richmond Park teachers and professional coaches from Sprint.

Students competed in a full range of track and field events, including high jump, long jump, javelin, hurdles, sprint races, and the thrilling relay race. Participants were not only aiming for personal success but also striving to earn valuable points for their respective houses.

Throughout the week, we witnessed outstanding performances, including some unexpected and exciting victories. The atmosphere was full of energy, determination, and sportsmanship.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teachers of Richmond Park School, the skilled monitors from Sprint, the supportive parents, and—most importantly—our incredible students. Their positive attitude, teamwork, and impressive athletic abilities truly made the week a memorable celebration of sport.

Friendly match vs. Fuentelarreyna

After finishing the official matches, our benjamín team played on Saturday 24 May a friendly match with a clear objective, that our players are gaining experience in matches. That objective was obviously met, and also to draw conclusions by the coach. Each match, depending on the conditions in which it is played, provides information on what is working and what needs to be improved.

The best thing was our scoring, 31 points, the team record, and having played on a field of very small dimensions, which as we mentioned before, provides very interesting information for the planning of the following training sessions; the worst thing, some lapses in concentration. The result, in this case, was the least important: a 39-31 defeat.
